About This Site - Health Care Plan Data

Health Plans Louisiana Health Finder’s Compare Quality section reports on health care plan quality using the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS). HEDIS allows consumers to compare health care plans to one another and to regional and national benchmarks. More than 90 percent of America's health care plans use HEDIS to measure performance on important dimensions of care and service, which are developed and maintained by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). Performance measures can include access and availability, disease screening and early detection, disease prevention, customer satisfaction and many others.

The HEDIS 2009 measures are calculated from claims that were collected from January to December 2008. The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH), which created and manages Louisiana Health Finder, uses NCQA’s Quality Compass® 2009 to access the HEDIS information from those health care plans that report their results directly to NCQA. However, some plans choose not to submit results to NCQA because they are accredited by one of the other accrediting agencies. So that consumers can get the most comprehensive information available, DHH reaches out to those health care plans individually for voluntary submission of their HEDIS results.
